Daring Dahlia

The RHS Garden Wisley is presenting a series of special days to help gardeners broaden their knowledge and appreciation of plants such as dahlias, hydrangeas and buddlejas. Visitors can see the plants growing in the trials grounds and find out how RHS trials work and even vote for their favourite plants.
Fergus Garrett, Head Gardener of Christopher Lloyd’s inspirational Great Dixter garden, will be giving a ‘Daring Dahlias’ talk at a special open day on 9 September. A world expert on Dahlia taxonomy, Fergus will be coming over from Copenhagen for this special event. Visitors will be able to find out how to get the best from these beautiful flowers in the garden with demonstrations on the trials field. Free entrance to Great Dixter in Sussex is included in the price of £25.

Dahlias grow in the wild in Mexico and central America but have been in cultivation in Europe for over two hundred years, following their introduction towards the end of the eighteenth century.

RHS Garden Wisley is open daily except Christmas Day. Opening times 1 March to 31 October Monday to Friday from 10am – 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 6pm (4.30pm Nov – Feb). Last entry is one hour before garden closing time.
